Lil Nas X Says Country Chart Controversy Makes Him Feel “More Accomplished”

Lil Nas X says the controversy surrounding his country-rap crossover hit “Old Town Road” has only made it’s success sweeter. “You can have your country song with trap elements, but if it’s by known country artists, then it’s allowed,” the rapper tells Teen Vogue about the song being pulled from the Billboard Country charts in March. “A black guy who raps comes along, and he’s on top of the country chart, it’s like, ‘What the f*ck?’” He goes on to lament the fact that “the Billboard situation was bigger than the song.” “By me being involved in something like that, it doesn’t make me feel bad,” he continues. “It makes me feel even more accomplished in a way.”
